Preheating & Post-treatment
Preheating during welding slows down the cooling rate of the base material. This allows for more gradual shrinkage and expansion of the weld zone, reducing the risk of cracking and ensuring better material quality.
Stress relieving is performed after welding to improve the properties of the weld and the heat affected zone. This is also known as post-weld heat treatment (PWHT). Depending on the material and application, appropriate procedures are followed according to applicable standards. High temperatures during welding cause shrinkage stresses upon cooling. Stress relieving reduces these stresses to an acceptable level.
